ADHD Testing

Do you need ADHD testing?

ADHD has garnered a significant amount of attention in recent years. Social media has brought awareness of the condition as well as defined the symptoms in a relatable manner. However, multiple symptoms of ADHD are present in other conditions. You can have symptoms of ADHD and not actually have ADHD as a clinical diagnosis. For example, someone who struggles to pay attention in class could have ADHD. Alternatively, they could have difficulty learning, spend too much time on screens, have challenges with sensory needs, or have a stressful home life that is too difficult for them to manage while at school.

The same is true for adults. We may not be able to focus because we have ADHD, or we could be struggling with other difficulties that make it hard for us to slow down our brains to be present in the moment. Sometimes, we can get so overwhelmed with life that we just need some help to get back on track. An ADHD diagnosis or rule-out can be helpful to narrow things down and tailor treatment to best meet your needs. In summary, if you think you may have ADHD, testing is necessary! No matter what you learn about yourself, a skilled therapist can assist you in understanding your test results and what they mean for your life moving forward. In the meantime, if you are overwhelmed with seemingly insurmountable tasks at home (like finishing the laundry, organizing a closet, keeping up with basic chores, or finally getting to that project you’ve been meaning to finish for 6 months…) I recommend this book: How to Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis, LPC. It can help you to conquer your mountain one small piece at a time. Slow progress is still forward motion!
