I feel the need to immediately defend vulnerability as not just weeping in your therapists’ office. To me, vulnerability is showing up as our real, true, genuine selves. And this is one hell of a risk. We have been taught and reinforced that we need to tuck in our insecurities, our fears and weaknesses, and especially our parts which we have been taught to shame. Vulnerability is the choice to allow others to see us in our ugliness, our worst angles, our snotty sickness, our biggest mistakes, and our deepest regrets. While maybe this is openly crying and showing emotions, it can also be allowing others to see us in our true passions, silly dreams, unpopular opinions, or saying “I love you” first, with no strings attached. Vulnerability is taking the risk to let down our guard in order to connect and even harder, to grow.
I specialize in working with family systems of all sorts, with a focus on increasing the communication and support in those relationships to better manage stress and other persistent issues. I work with individuals building their own self esteem or exploring their sexual or gender identity.
