Brene Brown stated, “Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”
Being our authentic self is easier said than done, but it is totally worth it. To develop this, we need to embrace our strengths, explore our values, pay attention to our self-talk, notice our emotions, practice mindfulness, build a solid social support network, and face our fears. When we live authentically, we generate trust within ourselves and with others.
Sometimes this process can be hard and misunderstood by some, but there is no way that we can please everyone. Learning how to say no and setting defined boundaries is a way of self-care that we need to normalize in order to live into who we want to be. This is not a perfect process, and there are times when we might feel like we fail. Authenticity is not about never failing but making the choice every day to try again.
