Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy often used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). With the aim of helping you heal from traumatic events, EMDR aims to alleviate the aftereffects of major traumas, including war, assault, rape, and auto accidents. But, it’s also useful in addressing ‘smaller’ traumas, such as divorce, job loss, and grief. By mimicking the eye movements of REM sleep, it’s possible to reprocess disturbing memories and reduce the emotional distress they cause.
Unlike traditional therapy, EMDR leverages the way the brain processes information to stimulate the natural healing process.
You’ve tried avoidance. You’ve tried talk therapy. Ultimately, nothing’s worked. EMDR is an alternative way to process and overcome your trauma.
